Two sets of Notre Dame memories from mid-April 2011 and 2014 run through my mind about this time every year. In April 2011, the leadership of the Notre Dame Alumni Association honored me with a special luncheon and an award presentation at halftime of the Annual Blue-Gold Spring Football Game. The William D. Reynolds Award honors an alumnus or alumna for “doing exceptional work with youth for the betterment of the quality of life.” The award came with an expectation from the ND Alumni Association: “Keep doing what you are doing!”
Eight of us Notre Dame/St. Mary’s College classmates returned to Angers, France in mid-April 2014 to the Universite Catholique de l’Ouest. Some came with spouses to pay tribute to the place where we spent our Sophomore Year Abroad immersed in French language and culture. It was a life-changing experience for a lad from San Antonio’s Eastside and serves the basis for my encouraging college students to seize the opportunity to Study Abroad.
These two memories remind me of the Kindness that is Notre Dame!
